Rocca delle Macìe was established in 1973, when Italo Zingarelli, a film-maker, producer and director, decided to realize his lifelong dream by acquiring the “Le Macìe” estate, in order to create a winery in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone and to produce wines that, thanks to their balance between the tannic structure, fruit and pleasantness, can be appreciated by young people and wines that are able to give over the years a great evolution.
Roccato is Rocca delle Macìe’s historic Supertuscan. Produced in its first vintage in 1988, it was conceived as an equal blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, as a wine to represent the winery’s know-how and the development of Tuscan hint with an international breath. It is a wine that over the past years has shown how strong the influence of the terroir can be in the adaptable Cabernet Sauvignon, which in its most successful expressions seems to be “chianteggi”, that is to say able to give back aromatically characters unmistakably Chiantigian, linked to the territory and not necessarily the vine. The baggage of this experience led to the decision of creating, starting from the 2015 vintage, a Roccato IGT Toscana that was a pure Cabernet Sauvignon, obtained from the single vineyard “Poggio alle Pecchie”, planted in 1996. The renovation project launched by the owner Sergio Zingarelli twenty years ago, focused on the strong territorial roots of the wines produced in Chianti Classico by Rocca delle Macìe, has now materialized in the achievement of the set goals. A mouth-filling, velvety wine that is rich in aromas of blackberry, plum and licorice, Roccato has a good mineral component and a tannic structure that is capable of supporting long-term aging.

The highest expression of Rocca delle Macìe winemaking, the Gran Selezione Sergio Zingarelli has a history that stretches way back, since it is the fruit of many years’ work in the vineyards on the Le Macìe estate at Castellina in Chianti, where the Sangiovese grape comes into its own like nowhere else. This wine encapsulates the very best of the Chianti Classico production zone and its vineyards, as well as the painstaking efforts of everyone involved.
The first bottling was in 2010, with the 2019 harvest, we are on the 10th year of production of this new category in the Chianti region.

However, Gioveto is a Toscana IGT which comes from the blend of the best selection of Merlot, Syrah and Sangiovese. “Gioveto” comes from the old name of Sangiovese in Tuscany which was called “SanGioveto”.
The selection of the grapes is the first secret of the Cantagallo wines, so much that as mentioned in the label and written in the cork is made “a bottle for each strain” (“Una bottiglia di vino per ogni ceppo di vite”).

With his pioneering spirit, Michel Chapoutier set off to discover the terroirs of the oldest continent, with an idea: growing Rhone grapes in Australia. This was the beginnings of a tremendous voyage of discovery, observation and eventually, affection for that land. On what he found to be very special terroir, he planted non-grafted vines from 19th century clonal selections, imported from Europe before phylloxera took its toll. The non-negligible advantage was that in Australia, the harvest coincides with the French spring: ideal timing.
