Rocca delle Macìe was established in 1973, when Italo Zingarelli, a film-maker, producer and director, decided to realize his lifelong dream by acquiring the “Le Macìe” estate, in order to create a winery in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone and to produce wines that, thanks to their balance between the tannic structure, fruit and pleasantness, can be appreciated by young people and wines that are able to give over the years a great evolution.
The highest expression of Rocca delle Macìe winemaking, the Gran Selezione Sergio Zingarelli has a history that stretches way back, since it is the fruit of many years’ work in the vineyards on the Le Macìe estate at Castellina in Chianti, where the Sangiovese grape comes into its own like nowhere else. This wine encapsulates the very best of the Chianti Classico production zone and its vineyards, as well as the painstaking efforts of everyone involved.
The first bottling was in 2010, with the 2017 harvest, we are on the seventh year of production of this new category in the Chianti region. To produce the Gran Selezione the most typical indigenous varieties of the Chianti Classico zone were chosen (90% Sangiovese, 10% Colorino) which in this wine express the best of their potential and of the terroir where they come from.
