In the Egrots, a small hamlet in the commune of Sury-en-Vaux, 4 kilometers from Sancerre, Michel and Laurent Thomas operate a family estate comprising 17 hectares of vineyards, on 3 different types of terroirs: limestone and stony soil giving fine and fruity wines; clay and shellfish soils giving a wine with intense aromas of almonds and citrus; and sedimentary rock very hard siliceous, giving smoked aromas.
The production is harvested, vinified and bottled by them at the property.

The Miles from Nowhere name comes from the journey Franklin Tate’s ancestors made over 100 years ago from Eastern Europe to Australia: upon their arrival, they felt they had travelled “miles from nowhere”.
The philosophy of Miles from Nowhere is based on a passion for seeking out precious pockets of exceptional land and vineyards across the Margaret River region.
This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon is created by selecting only the best individual panels and rows (the so called “Best Blocks“) from across 3 different sub-regions of Margaret River.
Cabernet Sauvignon is Margaret River’s classic variety, it represents where the region started.
As Margaret River continues to grow and develop, the love for Cabernet never changes, it is the soul of the community, and responsible to have put Margaret River on the map.
Miles From Nowhere is all about a passion for winemaking.
This passion drove oenologist Rory Clifton-Parks and a well-known industry veteran Franklin Tate to gathered precious little pockets of exceptional land and vineyards, scattered across the Margaret River region of Western Australia.
This is solid, well-made Chardonnay, something really special, unique and distinct, that from the ground up truly expresses what is unique about the terroir of Margaret River. The majority of this wine, came from the “best blocks” of the vineyards in the Wilyabrup sub-region in Margaret River.

For this blend of Shiraz, two parcels of Wilyabrup fruit with an average vine age of 20 years were selected : one from sand over clay soils located close to the coast, and one on free draining gravelly ironstone. Both parcels are spur pruned and low yielding with excellent bunch architecture.
A good Shiraz for those who enjoy a wine with a dense mouthfeel.

For the 2021 vintage of this blend, the fruits come from the heart of northern Margaret River: a Gin Gin selection from the original Miamup property and a blend of 4 traditional Burgundy clones field blended on harvest day to maximize the complexity of aromas. Harvest was completed during the cool hours of the night, to allow a few hours of skin contact for texture and fruit intensity. The wine was fermented in French oak- about 20% new- then matured the on its yeast lees for 6 months with limited stirring (battonage) to further enhance its creamy texture. No malolactic fermentation was used in 2021 to showcase the purity of the ripe fruit characters and retain the wine’s long fine acidity.

For their rosé, Miles From Nowhere focus their sourcing from the southern, cooler parts of Margaret River that produce delicate, ethereal Shiraz. In 2021, they blended a batch of the rare Muscat a petit grains rouge to add to the complexity and uniqueness of our rose.
In the end, this beloved rosé shows the fresh and subtly sweet flavours of a white, with the gentle spices and complexities from the red.

A wine Margaret River produces better than most: the classical styled Sauvignon Blanc Semillon.
2022 offered good conditions for this blend of Sauvignon Blanc, which cames into the winery first at the peak of its freshness, and Semillon, which was allowed to ripen longer and develop highly textural characters typical of the variety.
With its bright acidity balanced with tropical fruit flavours, every sip truly takes you Miles From Nowhere.
