In 1879, the Real de Asúa brothers arrived in Haro to embark on what would become one of the longest-standing histories in the wine world. A trip initially taken for health reasons led to the creation of Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (C.V.N.E.) in the iconic Barrio de la Estación railway station. The first wine produced by CVNE was named after its initials. A simple orthographic mistake where the V was written as U resulted in the creation of the Cune brand.

The CVNE Colección de la Familia Don Eusebio Rioja Gran Reserva 2019 is an exceptional, deeply traditional Spanish red wine that pays tribute to Eusebio Real de Asúa, one of the original brothers who founded the legendary winery in 1879. Representing the pinnacle of the standard CVNE line, this limited-release Gran Reserva undergoes a massive 5-year maturation process before it ever leaves the cellars.

APPEARANCE
Ruby red with clear garnet shades.

NOSE
Intense and fragrantly expressive. It leads with deep aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and plum, followed by tertiary notes of vanilla, toasted spices, forest floor, and wild mushrooms.

PALATE
Medium-to-full-bodied with an energetic, linear focus. The long ageing in bottle have smoothed out the edges, offering a velvety texture, balanced acidity, and a very long, persistent finish.

AGEING
24 months in a mix of American and French oak barrels, followed by 36 months of refining in bottle.

PAIRING
Beautifully paired with savory, rich dishes such as leg of lamb seasoned with rosemary, grilled steaks or aged Manchego cheese.
