Grillesino Ceccante Cabernet Sauvignon Maremma Toscana DOC

Compagnia Del Vino represents select winemaking families in Italy, united by a shared business vision, a rich history, and a commitment to serving as a benchmark for their production area.

Located in the municipality of Magliano in Tuscany in the lower Maremma, the Grillesino winery was founded in 1999 by Giancarlo and Saverio Notari, who wanted to produce a wine they could control every stage of its production. With vineyards mostly in the Morellino di Scansano DOCG zone, the winery covers 32 hectares, all trained using the spurred cordon system with a planting density of 6,000 vines per hectare. In addition to the native Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon was planted between 2000 and 2002, which gives Grillesino its great complexity and rich aromas. The clones were selected in collaboration with the University of Agriculture of Florence and the Bordeaux Oenology Institute, a collaboration that led to the identification of the Cabernet-Margaux clone, used for the Ceccante and Niccolaio wines, both of which are highly prized. Vinified with modern technologies, the wines of the Grillesino company undergo very light filtration treatments so that their typicality is one of their main characteristics.

Ceccante is the name of a hero from the Tuscan tradition, passed down orally by storytellers. Legend has it that, while fleeing from ruffians after performing a heroic deed, he hid for days among the rows of vines, where he tasted the clusters of grapes hanging ripe from the shoots. Their sweetness captivated him so completely that he decided to settle in the Maremma region. Ceccante is Grillesinoi’s most representative wine, produced since 1998; the clones used were selected in collaboration with the Institut d’Oenologie de Bordeaux.
