The Hedonist Ecology Shiraz

The fruit for the Hedonist Ecology Shiraz is sourced from our Willunga foothills estate vineyard & an iconic vineyard from Kangarilla, a relatively cooler site within McLaren Vale, approximately 50/50.

The Hedonist Sangiovese

Fruit sourced from the Sellicks foothills on clayey sand and silica soils and unconsolidated sand in McLaren Vale.

McLaren Vale experienced a wet winter, but also a mild spring and summer. This created superb ripening conditions from fruit set and flowering through version and ripening. Yields, however, were slightly down across the board. 2021 was touted ‘the best quality vintage so far this century’, but 2022 will give it a run for its money. A civilised vintage created a relaxed picking environment and enabled an ideal balance of sugar ripeness, natural acidity, and texture in the resulting wines.

The Hedonist Shiraz

The fruit for the Hedonist Shiraz is predominately estate grown on our organic/biodynamic certified vineyard situated in the Willunga foothills, McLaren Vale. Fruit is also sourced from the Sellicks Foothills, Blewitt Springs and Kangarilla, all from vastly different soil profiles and aspects across the district. The idyllic St Vincent’s Gulf with it’s cooling sea breeze lies just to the West of the valley.

A very dry winter and spring, coupled with record heat and dry conditions throughout summer led to an early and condensed vintage. The conditions lent themselves to smaller berries with good concentration of flavour.

“I made it black and silky in new American oak and it’s got that long velvety finish true Shiraz lovers lust after.” – Walter Clappis, Winemaker

This wine is made using certified biodynamic and organic vineyards and winemaking practices.

Tournon by M.Chapoutier Mathilda Chapoutier Shiraz Victoria

With his pioneering spirit, Michel Chapoutier set off to discover the terroirs of the oldest continent, with an idea: growing Rhone grapes in Australia. This was the beginnings of a tremendous voyage of discovery, observation and eventually, affection for that land. On what he found to be very special terroir, he planted non-grafted vines from 19th century clonal selections, imported from Europe before phylloxera took its toll. The non-negligible advantage was that in Australia, the harvest coincides with the French spring: ideal timing.
