Château Prieuré-Lichine Margaux Grand Cru Classé AOC

An emblematic property of the Margaux appellation on the left bank of the Bordeaux region, Château Prieuré-Lichine bears witness to a prestigious heritage. The vines of the castle were originally cultivated by the monks under the leadership of  Pope Clement V. In the 18th century, viniculture developed, thanks to the attraction of the English for the wines of the region. At this time, the wines of the Church acquired a strong notoriety.
After its classification of  4th Grand Cru Classé in 1855 , the domain of Prieuré-Lichine continues its development. In 1953, Alexis Lichine, nicknamed the Pope of Wine , succeeded him. The castle is experiencing a new boom. The domain which was then called Prieuré-Cantenac, becomes Prieuré-Lichine. When he died on June 1, 1989, his family took over as head of the estate.

The year 2017 will long remain in the collective memory in Bordeaux, because of the devastating spring frosts that ocurred over the last ten days of April. Despite these difficult conditions, the exceptional terroir of Margaux produces high quality, aromatic grapes with silky tannins.
