Originally from Schönberg, in the Rhineland, fleeing the consequences of the defeat of Napoleon I, the Yung family origins settled for more than a century in Algeria. Already listed in the first edition of Féret des Vins d’Oranie in 1886, the family developed its vineyard until independence, until forced to abandon the wine estates it had owned since 1859.
In 1862 Charles Young joined his older brother, already settled in Gironde. He then decides to acquire for his 2 children and his 2 nephews, the Château Haut Mondain, a 42-hectare AOC Bordeaux wine estate, followed then by Château Barail, Les Hauts de Palette and Moulin de Tassin.

Comte Joseph Marie de Ségur, the Lord of Cabanac, purchased and created this 7.5-ha estate, which still bears his name “Ségur de Cabanac.” Guy Delon, 7th generation of winegrowers in Bordeaux, took over the property in 1985. Today he continues to manage the estate with his son JF Delon and his daughter Guylène. They also own another Cru Bourgeois, Château Moulin de la Rose in Saint-Julien.

Château Siran is the result of a subtle blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, which reflects the identity of its terroir. Both powerful and subtle, Siran’s wines always seek a balance between the softness of the tannins, the intensity of the fruit and a persistent freshness. Siran wines are known for their aging potential, even long aging that will delight the most patient.
2021 is a vintage of precision, returning to a more classic, streamlined style, “The year of Cabernet the King.” After a rather overcast spring, the season gradually regained balance, allowing fine ripeness levels—especially for the Cabernets. Cabernet Sauvignon leads with clarity and finesse, supported by a very expressive Petit Verdot that brings lift and freshness, while Merlot completes the blend with roundness. Lower alcohol levels and a fine tannic frame shape a harmonious, digestible and decidedly elegant wine—in the spirit of the great “fresh” vintages. A little different from the usual style, but just as charming.
The Meyre family, Médoc winegrowers for 6 generations, have been able to extend and perpetuate the family business. Julien and Nathalie, now in charge of the properties and drawing on their respective experiences, bring dynamism and renewal.
Château Sorbey in Haut Médoc is the smallest of Mayre’s properties, producing ample and fruity wines with harmonious tannins, everything that makes the reputation of Haut Médoc wines.

In 1972, the property itself was purchased by the Famille Jean-François Janoueix, managers and owners of prestigious Saint-Émilion and Pomerol estates since 1898. Janoueix wines have been served to presidents and dignitaries during official state dinners. The reputation of the La Croix-Toulifaut vineyards stretches even further back to the Middle Ages when the religious pilgrims of Saint Jacques gathered in front of the stone cross of La Croix Toulifaut as part of their devotions. The same cross still stands today and serves as a landmark for this vineyard. The very name Toulifaut has its roots in the old Latin French phrase “tot li falt” or “tout y faille” (everyone will give way). History has it that even the most pious person cannot help but be drawn to Pomerol from these vineyards.
ChâteauToulifaut (often listed as Château La Croix Toulifaut) is made from 100% Merlot and carries the winery’s long history of craftsmanship and patience. This wine has been called the “Princess of Pomerol” by Jean-Luc Pouteau, the best sommelier in the world, based on its feminine representation of the appellation’s characteristics.
