Montresor Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva Satinato DOCG

Cantine Giacomo Montresor is a historic Italian winery rooted heavily in the Veneto wine region, specifically around Verona and the famed Valpolicella zone. Officially established in 1892 by Giacomo Montresor, the estate is widely celebrated for its contribution to Veneto’s traditional winemaking, most notably its iconic frosted, satin-finished bottles (“Satinato”).

The bottle was designed by Giacomo Montresor, who, besides his passion for wine, dedicated most of his time to painting. He called this bottle MULA. In 1904 the bottle did not feature its satin finish yet, but it boasted sinuous curves that combined the shape of a classic wine flask to a modern glass bottle, which was unusual for that time. In 1906 the first exports towards North America began. Those first exported bottles carried the wine that today we know as Amarone della Valpolicella. The satin-finished bottle was patented specifically to protect the wine from the ocean’s sun during the first exports to North America.

Montresor Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva Satinato DOCG is a rare, collector-tier expression that represents the absolute pinnacle of maturity and complexity from Cantine Giacomo Montresor. Packaged in their patented, iconic frosted “satin” bottle, this special Riserva was crafted from an exceptional, classic Venetian vintage. The 2013 growing season in Verona was cooler and slower-ripening than subsequent hot years, resulting in a highly elegant Amarone with a massive structural spine, bright structural acidity, and immense longevity.
