It was in 1981 that the Marquis Lodovico Antinori, cousin of Piero Antinori, founded the Ornellaia Estate, in the heart of the Bolgheri area, a few kilometers from the Mediterranean coast. Thus, with the first harvest of 1985, what would become an icon among the SuperTuscans was born: the “Ornellaia”. With the inauguration of the company, the world-famous enologist, Michel Rolland, begins to deal with the technical part of the cellar. Subsequently, in the 90s the other two labels were born: “Le Volte” and “Le Serre Nuove”.
Ornellaia is a blend of nature and musing. Complex ancient soils converse through human wisdom with a delicate microclimate that is echoed and reflected in the Mediterranean Sea. Prolonged ageing accompanies the estate’s fine wine in achieving its utmost expression, revealing finesse and generosity over time.
“Ornellaia 2018 features a lively and intense aromatic expression, a distinctive mark of the vintage.” – Olga Fusari – Winemaker

Ancient legends recount tales of nymphs, giants and winged serpents in the encompassing Apennine mountains. During the 5th century BC, the most feared mythical dragon devastated Ate and Tixa, in the southern part of Abruzzo. St. Leucio, famed slayer was summoned to kill the dragon. Today St. Leucio Cathedral stands on the monster’s den and contains the dragon’s 2 meter rib as proof of the diocesan’s bravery.
Hand-harvested grapes from the Abruzzo region make up this fruit-forward red wine. Classic Italian varietal Sangiovese is combined with French Merlot and aged for three months in large vessels made from oak, to soften and round out the tannins. Sangiovese gives crunchy red fruits, brisk acidity and fine tannins for structure, while Merlot adds soft, fleshy red stone fruits, producing a plush, satisfying red.

At the end of XIX century, Francesco Rocca started his historical business by bulk wine. In 1936 his son Angelo enhanced the wine production and built up a cellar in Nardò, Apulia. In the 1960’s, Ernesto Rocca, Angelo’s son, bought the first bottling line and started the distribution of products under the Rocca brand. In 1999, infatuated with Apulia and vines, he bought a farm in Leverano, in the heart of Salento.
In 2009, Rocca Family becomes the major shareholder of the historical winery Dezzani in Piedmont realizing new commercial and productive synergies. Paolo, Marco, Luca and Matteo (Ernesto’s sons), sharing duties and responsibilities, run the family’s business, which includes also a building company and a leading trot horse stud farm.
“5 VITE” stands out for its extraordinary harmonious taste resulting from the complementarity of each grape varieties: the soft elegant tannins of Negroamaro, the dense texture of Nero di Troia and the delicate aroma of Malvasia Nera, blend perfectly with the authentic fruitness of Primitivo and the aromatic intensity of Susumaniello.
