Terlato & Chapoutier L-Block Shiraz

The Terlato & Chapoutier domain is the French company’s third project in Australia, and the second domain in Victoria. Michel Chapoutier joined forces with the Terlato family (the company’s American distributor) in 2000 in the Great Western Victoria’s Pyrenees on clay- and gravel-intensive soil. Already 20 years into what has been a great adventure.

“Lots of earth and spice with some meat and plum aromas and flavors. Full body. Soft and velvety texture with earth, spice and meaty character. A little exaggerated in the funky direction, but fun.” – James Suckling

Organically certification in progress on vintage 2018.

Tournon by M.Chapoutier Mathilda Chapoutier Shiraz Victoria

With his pioneering spirit, Michel Chapoutier set off to discover the terroirs of the oldest continent, with an idea: growing Rhone grapes in Australia. This was the beginnings of a tremendous voyage of discovery, observation and eventually, affection for that land. On what he found to be very special terroir, he planted non-grafted vines from 19th century clonal selections, imported from Europe before phylloxera took its toll. The non-negligible advantage was that in Australia, the harvest coincides with the French spring: ideal timing.
