In 1879, the Real de Asúa brothers arrived in Haro to embark on what would become one of the longest-standing histories in the wine world. A trip initially taken for health reasons led to the creation of Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (C.V.N.E.) in the iconic Barrio de la Estación railway station. The first wine produced by CVNE was named after its initials. A simple orthographic mistake where the V was written as U resulted in the creation of the Cune brand.

The grapes for CUNE Roble are harvested from vineyards situated 800 m above sea level on clayey and calcareous soils in the town of Villalba de Duero, Burgos. The climate is continental, with severe winters and warm summers with cold nights.

A cherry red wine with intense red fruit aromas and a good balance, with the spicy nuances brought by its ageing in the barrel.

Cune Blanco is made with a selection of the best Viura vines from the sub-areas of Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa, which combine ideal characteristics for growing vines. The wine’s complexity stems from the diversity of altitudes, exposures and soil types found across these vineyards. A shared guiding principle is the pursuit of freshness and balance, which defines the identity of the wine.

The enterprising Esteban Martín family has always had a very close relationship with the countryside and farming. The family business began in 1964 with the creation of the Granja Virgen del Rosario farm. In addition to the farm, the winery and a transport company also form part of Grupo Esteban Martín, the group fully owned by the Esteban Martín family.

In 1985, Miguel Antonio Esteban decided to buy 150 hectares of vineyards in the best lands of the DOP Cariñena, located at the foot of the Iberian Mountains, in the heart of the Ebro Valley. Year after year he was acquiring new parcels and already in 2003 he decided to build his own winery.

Produced with organic practices and suitable for vegans, this wine reflects Bodegas Esteban Martín's dedication to quality and respect for nature.

Finca La Emperatriz is a winery with an extensive vineyard estate in Rioja Alta.
Viñedos Hermanos Hernáiz is the new project of brothers Eduardo and Víctor, who in 1996 acquired Bodega La Emperatriz, named as such because the first owner of these plots was Eugenia de Montijo, wife of Napoleon III and Empress of France. With this new emphasis and with new projects at hand, the winery changed its name but its high-end wines retain the Finca La Emperatriz signature, the name of the ‘viñedo singular’ they come from, which is given to small, old plots with limited but high quality production and which, in summary, must comply with a series of strict standards to prove their quality. The grapes used to make El Jardín de la Emperatriz Tinto come from plots where the soils are mostly composed of white boulders over a sandy-loam structure and where the vines have an average age of 25 years old.

Las Cenizas is the winery’s village wine that takes its name from one of the most important towns in the Rioja DOCa: Cenicero, in the heart of Rioja Alta, - where the Hernáiz brothers - and whose name is believed to be due to the bonfires that the primitive shepherds left as they passed through the area. A historic town known for its vineyards and the quality of its wines.

For several generations, the García family has been fully dedicated to viticulture. In 2000, leveraging decades of experience and winemaking know-how, they founded Bodegas Monteabellón, a family winery located in the small town of Nava de Roa. Nava de Roa still preserves a multitude of wine presses and wineries where its people once produced and stored wine. As in the rest of the Ribera del Duero region, its history and traditions are closely linked to wine.

A dry, cold winter and a dry, dry spring with a water deficit were followed by a very dry, hot summer with temperatures exceeding 42°C for more than 10 consecutive days. All of this has resulted in a high alcohol content and high tannin concentration for the vintage 2022. The result is a characteristically rich layer of color in the wines, with fewer fresh fruit notes than in previous vintages, but more ripe fruit notes this time. These characteristics are appreciated both on the palate and nose. A very good harvest is expected given the high concentration of the wines. This also includes an excellent skin-to-pulp ratio that is more balanced than in previous years.
