Château Purcari, located in the southwest of the country within the IGP Ștefan Vodă, benefits from rolling hills, limestone bedrock, and fertile black soil — an ideal terroir for grape cultivation. True values do not change with time. Purcari remains Purcari. Since 1827.

Wine has been made in Moldova for thousands of years, but it is only in the last couple of centuries that this small country has drawn international attention for its excellent wines. In 1827 Tsar Nicholas I issued a special decree recognising Château Purcari as the first official winery in Bessarabia which is today known as Moldova. This iconic estate is located close to the Black Sea in the south-eastern corner of Moldova. French settlers in the region quickly noticed the similarities between the local terroir and their native Bordeaux since the area sits at the same latitude as the famous French wine region and also boasts the same rubidium-rich soil types.

Purcari is putting Moldova on the world wine map with this famous noble blend ordered by the Royals of Europe for years. This was realised as early as 1847 when the estate’s Negru de Purcari wine was awarded a gold medal at Bessarabia’s agricultural exhibition. A few decades later this wine was also awarded a gold medal at the Paris World Exhibition, ranking alongside France’s finest Bordeaux wines.

This majestic red is crafted predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon along with local Saperavi and Rara Neagră grapes which add complexity and intensity to the cuvee. A complex conversation wine that is serious but approachable, elegant but ripe for drinking tonight while the rest of the case reaches its peak in the cellar.

After manual harvesting, fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel, and the wine ages first in stainless steel and then in the bottle for 6 months.

This makes it particularly well-suited to Bordeaux varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon which thrive here.

In the 17th century, in southwestern France, two grape plants, a red Cabernet Franc and a white Sauvignon Blanc, were accidentally crossed, resulting in the most popular grape variety among wine lovers: Cabernet Sauvignon. The result is a full-bodied wine with a medium level of acidity that goes well with most dishes. Ed will be your wine guide on this trip. He can find Moldova on a map and knows his stuff when it comes to wine, food and fun.

You don’t have to be a clubhouse member to love Chardonnay. Why? Because Chardonnay is the most diverse, and most planted, white wine grape in the world. The variety originated in the Burgundy wine region of Eastern France and is now grown wherever wine is produced. This particular bottle is made for you in Moldova.
