The name Pirou seems to have a dual origin and a double meaning: both a nickname for a child in a local dialect and derived from the word pirol, itself from the Latin petrus (stone), and thus seems to reflect the rocky soils, which are abundant in the vineyard.

The Pirou family emblem is the sun, which radiates and warms hearts. In a northern vineyard like the Jura, with its harsh and sometimes long winters, it's a nod to the importance of the sun in ensuring the perfect ripeness of the different grape varieties: Savagnin, Poulsard, Trousseau in particular.

Small in size but vast in its exceptional diversity, the Jura vineyard stretches for 80 kilometers between Burgundy and Switzerland, along France's eastern border.

This Vin Jaune is a complex, prestigious, and highly traditional French "yellow wine" from the Jura region, which undergoes an intense, multi-year oxidative aging process under a natural veil of yeast. This specialized technique yields a deep golden, dry, and intensely nutty elixir that ranks among the most unique and long-lived white wines in the world. Due to natural evaporation over the long aging period (known as the "angels' share"), a single liter of wine reduces to roughly 62 cl. Because of this, Vin Jaune is exclusively bottled in the historic, squat 620ml Clavelin bottle.
